I found many similarities between this series and the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” series (which we have already reviewed and loved, click on the link to view it). I thought that this book was a bit childish with its humour and themes, and that’s why I put it in the 7-12 category. This book definitely would not have earned such a good rating from me without the pictures, it was such an asset. I thought the pictures were very basic but well-drawn, and most importantly, got the message across. Pictures were also used as photographs and in posters throughout this graphic novel. Pictures were used to set the scene and explain and show what was going on. The use of language in this book was easy to understand, but still informative. This book is great for people who are not very familiar with the Star Wars universe, as it is a helpful introduction to the inner workings of the Jedi. It was communicated to the reader through a playful manner, and provided a behind-the-scenes sort of overview. It kind of shows you how everything works and how the Jedi came to be.
This book was a great read for me as it was very informative about the Star Wars world. He meets many new friends and has various interesting classes and activities to attend on his new journey to becoming a Jedi. He arrives to his new school, which will also be his home for the next year. With permission of his mother, he decides to tag along. When Roan reaches the age to qualify for his local piloting academy all his friends are accepted, except him.Īfter this event, Roan is left heartbroken until, as I said before, a little green alien waddles up to him and says that he has been accepted into the Jedi Academy on Coruscant (the capital planet). Roan has always wanted to be a pilot and to follow in the footsteps of his father who is a fantastic and a well renowned pilot himself. Now I’m at a school with aliens, robots, and lightsaber-wielding bullies who can lift things with their minds! How am I supposed to compete with that? As if starting middle school wasn’t hard enough…” “My whole life I planned on going to pilot school like the rest of my friends – then I got rejected! Along came a little green guy named Yoda, who invited me to Jedi Academy. So if anyone is qualified to do this review, it’s him. He knows about all the movies, he has many information books that he studies very particularly, he can tell you about the weapons used and the war tactics put into practise. It’s one thing to say that you absolutely love Star Wars, but Alex takes this to the next level as he can name every character, planet and ship. I personally don’t know and haven’t met another person with such an extensive amount of knowledge on the subject. Before he starts though, I would just like to point out how much of a Star Wars fan he is. He will be writing the story line and thoughts section on his own. Today I present to you the book review for Star Wars Jedi Academy by Alex. So expect to hear back from us in 3 weeks to a month’s time for the next post… Of course, we will be seeing family that we haven’t seen for a long time and since it will be summer, you can’t expect us to stay out of the pools! This means we won’t be doing any posts until we are back and settled into term 3 of school. There is 1 week of school left for this term in Australia! Alex and I are so relieved to have finally finished all of our exams and are looking forward to the holidays, which we will spend in Lebanon and Cyprus with our dad’s side of the family. Welcome back dear readers, and apologies for the 1 month away from blogging! We certainly missed it! Book Review: Star Wars – Jedi Academy – Book 1 by Jeffrey Brown
